Is the Lisbon Free Tour really free? How much should I tip?

Yes. Booking is free and there is no ticket. At the end you pay what you think the tour was worth. That is how our guides make their living, and why they put their heart into every walk. As a reference, not a rule, travellers often tip €15–€25 per adult. Tips are in cash only, in euros.

What time does the tour start?

Every day, with several departures. Start times change through the year with the sunset, so please check the booking calendar on this page for today's times. Arrive 10 minutes early for check-in.

Where does the tour start and end?

It starts at the Restauradores Monument and ends at Praça do Comércio, by the Arco da Rua Augusta. Look for our guide with the blue umbrella.

How long is it, and is it a hard walk?

About 2h30 on foot, with stops. Lisbon is hilly. The route goes up to Largo do Carmo and Bairro Alto, then down through Chiado to the river. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.

What will I see?

Rossio, the Jewish Memorial and São Domingos Church, the views from the Santa Justa Lift, Convento do Carmo, Bairro Alto, Largo de Camões, Chiado, Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio. Stops can vary with the guide, the weather and local events.

What is included?

Your local guide, the route and the stories. Entrance fees, transport, food and drinks are not included.

Do I need to book?

It is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it to guarantee your spot. Booking is free and helps us keep groups at a comfortable size. Groups of 7 or more pay a reservation fee of €13.50 per adult and €7 per child aged 7 to 15.

What language is the tour in?

This tour is in English. We also run it in Spanish, Italian and French.

Does the tour run in the rain?

Yes, rain or shine. In bad weather we adapt the route. We only cancel in extreme conditions, and we let you know by email or WhatsApp.

Can children or wheelchair users join?

Children are welcome, and under-18s must come with an adult. For strollers or very young children, a private tour lets us set the pace. Lisbon has steep hills, cobblestones and stairs, so we cannot guarantee the whole route is suitable for wheelchairs.

Can I do another tour on the same day?

Yes, if the times don't overlap. Many guests pair this tour with our Alfama Free Tour or Belém Free Tour.
